As Bonfire night is just around the corner we’re here to share with you some tips and reminders to ensure you enjoy the fireworks, whilst staying safe!
There are lots of Bonfire events being held around Northamptonshire for you and your family to enjoy – and as well as being organised by professionals, these are usually the safest way to enjoy firework displays.
Buy responsibly
We know, however, that some of you may buy your own fireworks. These should only be bought from a licensed retailer with a CE mark – never buy from unknown retailers online.
Remember, it is illegal to buy fireworks if you are under 18!
Store fireworks safely
Keep fireworks in a closed box, out of reach of children, animals and any sources of heat or ignition (including cigarettes).
Be considerate
Let your neighbours know that you’re planning on letting fireworks off.
Make sure to check your surroundings before setting off fireworks, as wildlife like to hide in leaves.
Read all the instructions
Read and follow the instructions on each firework, using a torch if necessary.
Be prepared
Make sure to have a bucket of water at hand for emergencies.
Keep pets indoors
To avoid any accidents, keep pets inside.

Supervise children
Always keep children a safe distance from fireworks.
Sparklers should be kept away from children under five and older children should wear gloves and be closely supervised.
Be safe
Always light fireworks at an arm’s length and never go back to a firework that has been lit – even if it hasn’t gone off.
Never carry fireworks in your pockets.
Remember: if any part of your clothing catches on fire, STOP, DROP and ROLL
Dispose of fireworks safely
Ensure the fireworks are out, soak them in water, then put them in a rubbish bag and in the bin.
