Greatwell Homes are committed to supporting the government’s ‘Homes for Ukraine’ scheme which will allow people living in the UK to host Ukrainians.
Summary of what has been confirmed so far:-
- People who provide accommodation through the scheme will be offered a thank you payment of *£350 per month.
- *The government has confirmed that this payment will not be treated as income for the purposes of benefit entitlements (advice is being sought for urgent clarification on how this exemption will work in practice)
- Hosts will not be able to charge rent (note: refugees, will not be eligible for housing benefits, however, they will be able to apply for other benefits and to seek and take up employment)
- **Social renters and shared owners must let their housing association know if they intend to host someone through the scheme, so they can provide the appropriate consent, ensure the accommodation is appropriate, and connect people up the right support
